On Sunday afternoon, Darling Daughter rang me: "Mum, there's a big truck in the middle of OUR paddock", followed by the Multimedia evidence via mobile. It looks like Graeme the boring guy was ready to drill! Indeed, later that day, quotes were emailed and confirming phone calls made.
Monday was the usual busy day, the building company's soil surveyor came to take core samples: all good, sand over clay at 2.5 metres. So no nasty surprise in having to pay for extra foundations.
The big truck in the middle of the paddock had been joined by another, but one lonely guy was digging with a shovel, under the watchful eye of Francesca and Snowy, the now resident broodmares. I joked to him about being a long way to dig with a shovel. He informed me that the digger they were meant to use to make a 4' deep hole to accommodate the rig, was "stuffed"... So I left, with a promise "we'll ring you when we have water".Next came a visit to "The Shire", where I saw in turn, Planning (for the "Keeping of Horses Permit"), Engineering (for the "Application to Build a Crossover), all with the appropriate fees. Then Health, for the "Application to Dispose of Effluent", and positive sign, we may be able to combine septics for both the stables and the house.
The evening came, no call about water... a sleepless night, imagining the $$$ accumulating as they dig deeper and deeper.... bigger casing, $190 a metre for 6", as opposed to $120/m for 4". A bigger pump... and the "what if they dont find ANY at all" despite the assurance from the diviner.
So this morning, a detour to C2. And there was "Tommo", giving the thumbs up! A good stream at 45 metres, 4" casing sufficient. YIPEE! He showed me some rock pulled up at 45 metres, just like river stones, polished from the flow!!! Happy happy dance!!! Michelle, who immediately received the news via SMS, replied "wickid"... my feeling exactly!
Great news and boy what a truck, that looks very serious! Pity I didn't witness the diviner!
