Good News and Bad News

Well, we thought we were doing very well....
First, we have a barn, which will house 4 stables, and 2 outside covered horseyards (on the right hand side of the photo).
We have the start of a  bathroom awaiting the plumber to run pipes, install a toilet (left), a shower (right) as well as a basin, a laundry through and a hot water system.
The electrician has been arranged to bring the electricity, put in lots of lights and power points.
Then Morgan is coming back to put in walls, ceilings, and deal with the stables.
Then I do a bit of tiling, some painting, and we have all the comforts of home....

We also have the start of 4 new paddocks:
But today, it all went wrong.  Ryan the (nice) plumber came to put in the pipes, and 2 septic tanks, and 2 leach drains.
The backhoe started to dig the holes,
the holes flooded....So much so that they could not concrete the bottom of the septic tanks.

It is nearly summer, after one of the driest winters on record, but we have SO much groundwater that an extremely expensive "mobile dewatering" machinery was needed....  and tonight it is chugging away, drying the ground around the tanks.

The water level can be seen in the tanks even after a few hours of pumping!  The irony is that when it is finished, I have to pay a water tanker to deliver fresh water, to fill up the tanks so they can be tested and inspected by the Shire's health department!

  1. Boy I hope Monday brings an empty septic with a solid sealed concrete floor, and a VERY GOOD price on the de-waterer! (is that a real word?)
